Today we pray for one of our international missions partners - International Justice Missions (IJM) and their program in South Asia to combat sex trafficking and forced labor slavery. They rescue victims, partner with agencies to bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and work to strengthens justice systems.
Here is an update from them:
In May, a Court pronounced the significant judgment in a case of trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors. This case concluded a long journey toward justice, which started in September 2013 when IJM assisted authorities to rescue a survivor in a notorious red-light district. The trial journey was challenging and faced many delays. After nine years of legal proceedings, these convictions and sentences demonstrate the clear stance that sex trafficking of minors will not be tolerated and that those responsible will be held accountable!
IJM identified 22 bonded labour survivors who had been trafficked to a neighbouring state and exploited in jewelry factories, - working 12 to 14 hours a day in poor, unsanitary conditions. Upon discovering this, authorities arranged an operation to bring the survivors to safety. Following their rescue, the survivors were returned to their home state, where IJM has been supporting them through aftercare. IJM is working with the survivors to help them obtain rehabilitation compensation.
Please pray:
For the IJM team as it receives training on bonded labour rescue operations and procedure. Please also pray for the building of a strong relationship with the state Labour Department, which is key as IJM develops its bonded labour program in the region.
