This week we pray for our local missions partner Sanctuary Youth Centre. Based in the basement of Church of Our Lord in downtown Victoria they serve as a safe place for some of the most vulnerable people in our city - street entrenched and at-risk youth between the ages of 14 and 22.
Here is an update from them:
"Extended Hours! We have received a promise of funding from the City of Victoria for the 3rd consecutive year to open longer and on cold weather days (minus 1 or colder). That is good news; but it is also a challenge for us to find staff. We are looking for qualified part time staff and or volunteers to assist sometimes on a moment's notice between December 1, 2021 and April 30 2022. In the meantime, Current staff and volunteers are in need of prayer for stamina and grace as demands are higher during cold weather months.
On November 21, we have a guest speaker named Carey Oakes (an actress from the Netflix Series of Maid) to share with youth her story from the streets to 'success'.
Please pray that her story will have a lasting impact as many youth as possible.
Please pray for specific individuals we are working with on a mentoring level that they would respond to our input in their lives and we would see a change in their trajectory away from substance abuse or street life. One such young lady has begun to help us with organizing our donations for our annual Christmas backpack giveaway event.
Thank God for a budding new partnership with the Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness. As a result we will be seeing their group host more Indigenous meals at our Centre and more youth access to Cultural Programming for those First Nation's youth who wish to participate.
Please pray that our backpack giveaway and Christmas event on the weekend of December 17-19 is a success in terms of strengthening our relationship with youth we have interacted with over the past year. Please pray this also results in the youth feeling a sense of community and belonging at Sanctuary."
