Women in the life & leadership of Lambrick

Our community and leadership are led by the conviction that, interpreted in context, the gospel of Jesus Christ (as revealed in the Old and New Testament) opens the door for women and men to participate together as equal partners in life and leadership.

Consequently, we believe that the Church is best empowered to experience, follow and glorify God when fully empowered men and women are leading together in diversity and mutuality.

This is a conviction and commitment that has grown over the years and led to much change – affirmed most recently in the Spring of 2021 – by a strongly affirming vote of our membership to open the door for women to serve on the Board of Elders (and remove the male-only language in our bylaws that enshrined this practice in our past).  This is something many prayed and worked toward for years.

We recognize that some read and interpret the bible’s teaching differently on this significant matter. We seek to honor the intent of others to be faithful to what they believe to be taught by Scripture, while challenging and inviting everyone to hear scripture in its historic context.

We share a deep commitment to live in full and joyful submission to God’s revelation in Scripture and above all in Jesus Christ.  And we invite everyone to discover the grace that we are convinced of – that women and men ministering and leading together is both God’s original design and redeeming vision.

Re: the 2021 Vote

In 2020-21, after more than a year of biblical study, prayer, honest discussion, and listening to our congregation, our Board of Elders invited Scott Anderson (our lead pastor) to take a few Sundays in the early months of 2020 to teach on what the Bible says about women and leadership in the church. The first of these took place on Sunday, February 2, 2020 (all links below)

Our Board wrote a letter, unpacking the journey and heart behind this conversation, and this is available for download below, along with a page summarizing Lambrick's history on this topic, up till the present. For those who missed it, in June 2019, Scott's teaching on Jesus' landmark visit to the home of Mary and Martha was something of a preface to this whole conversation - offering some guidance for the road ahead.  You can find the sermon here.

On Sunday May 2, 2021 a church meeting was held (via Zoom) to share information and provide a time for listening to each other. Documents from that meeting are available immediately below, including a letter from the Board, a letter from our Lead Pastor, Scott, a copy of the proposed bylaw amendments, and answers to frequently asked questions about this process.

As with all of our weekly sermons, these teaching sessions are available online. You can find them on our sermon page, or by clicking the icons below.

Concluding Documents

In the days after the 2021 membership vote, Scott Anderson and the Elders provide some closing comments, and we provide some data and further information about our verification processes.
